Cameron Greene, a Montclair resident and a fourth-grader at The Montclair-Kimberley Academy Middle School, was recently named a finalist in the 2011 New York Red Bulls Soccer Skills competition.
Greene was one of 60 youth players chosen from a pool of 6,500 at the Regional Development School (RDS) Skills Challenge regional grand final, which was held at the Peddie School in Hightstown on Saturday. The 60 finalists will be recognized on the video screen at Red Bull Arena in Harrison tonight when the Red Bulls host the Philadelphia Union.
Greene has been involved with soccer since he was four years old, began competitive travel soccer at age 7, and he currently plays on Montclair United's U10 Academy travel team. Greene was also invited last year to join the Red Bulls' flagship Pre-Academy, which annually selects the top 12 players from a candidate pool that includes elite travel players from across the tri-state area.
The Montclair fourth-grader earned an invite to the regional final thanks to his exceptional performance at the RDS Summer Skills Challenge camp.
